Reviews for T-fal E93802 Professional Total Nonstick Thermo-Spot Heat Indicator Fry Pan, 8-Inch, Black

People say Tfal is really similar to Calphalon.

Great pan at a good price

I have purchased several of these T-Fal pans. I like them better than the much more expensive Calphalon pans I have purchased in the past. In particular, I love the large flat bottom. You can cook more food in the same 10-inch pan with this bottom. Non-stick works well, cleans easily, and seems to last a good long time. And, I work these pans out heavily. They are my everyday go-to for breakfast and dinner.

Better than Calphalon

I've always bought Calphalon, but the last couple of years I've been having to replace them frequently due to them losing their non-stick. Quality down and price up. Ordered this on a whim and LOVE IT seriously nothing sticks. I have not used in the oven or put in the dishwasher and don't plan to but had the pan for several months and absolutely no complaints

T-Fal's pro nonstick are the best price / performance for nonstick pans for induction

T-fal Professional Nonstick Fry Pans are superb all-round pans: SIGNATURE USES: * sautéed asparagus / bxl sprouts. medium high heat: snap ends / half-or-quarter sprouts, splash of water, cook lid on for 5 mins, then lid off until water evaporates, then add touch oil and flip until lightly browned. The size of the pan fits a whole supermarket bunch of asparagus, which no other fry pan I own does. * Salmon for the family. medium high heat: a 6 inch piece of salmon fillet, touch of oil in pan. start flesh side down, 3 mins until lightly seared, then flip using spatula and tilting pan (low sides good) onto skin. leave on medium heat until cooked through. ~ 7 minutes ?. skin should be crackly, center of salmon moist. GOOD: * not terribly expensive * All non-stick wears down, and thus non-stick pans are inherently consumables. This lasts longer than I recall when I last replaced it. * The shape of the sides is pefect for flipping, and makes reaching food with spatulas very easy. * induction compatibility is high. The pan heats quickly and evenly. * standard size fits my existing lids from all-clad / calphalon just fine. NOT GREAT: * Non-Stick durability is NOT best-in-class. But I find the price/permance tradeoff IS best-in-class. I would need to double the cost to improve durability, but instead I buy this and a slightly smaller t-fal for the same price. * heating disk is superb. For a disk. Cooking performance at the edges (outside the disk) is clearly not up to tri-p... Read More

Awesome pan, 3rd party lid

Having been given hand me down pans from my parents when going to college and moving in with various people, my parents' already scratched pans have gone through a lot. It was time to find a new one. Knowing I'd be using it a lot for the morning items (eggs, bacon, potatoes), as well as pan frying items, I opted to search for the larger sized pans. I read the reviews on the T-fal as well as seeing it the winner (by far) in America's Test Kitchen. This seemed to be the pan to get. Nonstick, oven safe, dishwasher safe, and (supposedly) can even be used with metal utensils; and at a great price. I had to try it. I got it early in the morning, which was great, because I could test it with breakfast. Bacon and eggs were so easy to make. Our old pan's nonstick surface was worn out in some areas and made cooking anything a challenge. This was such a breeze. It didn't seem to work with any of my other lids so I went on a quest to find one. Supposedly, the  Farberware 12-Inch Glass Lid  works well with this pan. I accidentally bought the  Calphalon Contemporary 12 Inch Glass Cover  as I had it open in another tab. I'm not disappointed. I think it looks much better than the Farberware lid. The only thing is, it doesn't sit completely well on the pan, but I can tell that no steam is escaping. As OCD as I am, and as much as that line bugs me, I still prefer the nicer looking lid. The only really small issue (and it's not even an issue) I have with this pan is that the dot in the middle... Read More

Best Non-Stick Pan

I purchased this frying pan  T-fal E93808 Professional Total Nonstick Oven Safe Thermo-Spot Heat Indicator Fry Pan / Saute Pan Dishwasher Safe Cookware, 12-Inch, Black  after my Calphalon pan became scratched and lost most of it's non-stick properties. I had read the review on America's Test Kitchen and that was the reason that i chose this pan. I have been using this pan for over a year and it has performed flawlessly. I am an experienced cook and I use this pan everyday. The center has a red circle which turns dark to let you know that the pan is heated and ready to use. I do not use any metal utensils to prevent scratching. I can make perfect eggs without sticking and brown chicken cutlets with very little fat for a low calorie meal. Clean up is easy with just a soapy sponge so I never put this in the dishwasher. I also purchased the 8" pan at the same time and it has performed equally as well. I would purchase this pan again, but it is still in perfect condition after a year of use so it will be a long time before I will need another. I cannot understand some of the negative reviews on this product. Buy this pan, you won't be sorry.

Best Saute pan for the money

I bought this saute pan based on the testing and review done by Cooks Illustrated. This pan out performed the much more expensive Calphalon saute pan. Just to be fair I do not subject my cookware to the torture chamber most people put theirs through. Mine get hand washed and never come into contact with metal utensils. As such I expect to get a lot of use from this pan. I would highly recommend this product with the following caveat: Don't expect any teflon coated pan to last forever. If you want to extend its life don't put it through the dishwasher even though the label says "dishwasher safe" If you are serious about cooking then you should invest in one or two essentials, the best you can afford and then take care of them properly. Properly seasoning your cookware is also an absolute must, if you insist on running it through the dishwasher then you should season the pan every time you wash it. This saute pan is very well constructed, it is quite heavy. The stainless steel base is more than adequately thick. Some reviewers stated that it was poorly constructed, very thin, warped easily. I can only surmise that either they used it for purposes that a saute pan is not designed for or that they are abusing the pan or more likely they bought a lower grade T-Fal pan when they thought they were getting the pro grade. Contrary to what some believe a saute pan is not a fry pan or a skillet.

Amazing pan in spite of the convex bottom...

I love this pan! I have expensive Circulon and Calphalon pans that aren't as good as this pan. After six months, the cooking surface is as good as new. It cleans up like a dream; a quick whisk with a paper towel removes any cooking residue, and a quick wash with hot, soapy water is all that's needed. The surface has been absolutely non-stick while cooking. The strange thing is that the bottom of the pan is convex, so that the center is the highest point. It was that way when I bought it. I wondered how that would affect the cooking, but it hasn't had much of an effect, even with eggs and pancakes as I cook most foods in a preheated pan. In fact, I think the foods retain less oil because they aren't sitting in it as they cook. I add a little oil, swish it around to coat the pan, and then quickly add the food. No problems. I'm thinking of getting more of these pans in the future as I need to replace my more expensive cookware.

BEST pan EVER

As a B&B owner we have been through a plethora of pans ALL from high end manufactures. We decided to go with TFAL because of my experience with some of their older pans (one of which I bought in 1994 and is still in use today). Time will tell with these so I will post again in about a year to let you all know how well they are holding up. I have confidence in them and have a felling they will out last of my Calphalon pans. OK it has been year now and with literally NO scratches and still working GREAT. this is our 4th TFAL, 3 bought last year and ALL are working GREAT - 10 times better than Calphalon or ANY high end pan for that matter. Highly recommended to ALL especially in commercial environment - also you can go to 400 on these in the oven (rated for 350). Also just a note here - I still have a TFAL from 1994 that I am still using :).

Excellent nonstick pan, but not flat

UPDSTE 1 January 2014: I've had my T-fal 12 inch fry/sauté pan for over 6 months, using it several times a week. It still has its superb non-stick quality and has sustained no scratches or nicks to the surface. I recently added a  T-fal E9380263 Professional Total Nonstick Oven Safe Thermo-Spot Heat Indicator 8-Inch Fry Pan / Saute Pan Dishwasher Safe Cookware, Black  to my collection. This pan, like it's brothers and sisters, is not flat. I placed a steel straightedge across the bottom and can fit a 0.032" (1/32") feeler gage at the center. This 8" pan is not as bowed as the larger pans, but that's to be expected with the smaller size. The quality of the 'professional' grade is really top-notch: heavy, well balanced, non-stick extreme. ORIGINAL REVIEW 30 June 2013: I accept the fact that I will buy and use nonstick frying pans that will lose their nonstick quality after a year or two and that I will (unhappily) continue to use them for another year before replacing them. It's what I've always done and I have no reason to expect that pattern to change. I replaced a much more expensive Calphalon pan with the T-fal E9380864 Professional 12 1/2" fry pan. Fortunately, the Calhalon lid fits the T-fal like it was made for it, so it wasn't a total loss. T-fal makes a their cookware in several levels of quality and I specifically chose the T-fal "professional" model after reading reviews of this and other models. The Professional model has a very heavy bottom and solid sides and ... Read More

I'd rate this pan "PG": Pretty Good

America's Test Kitchen rated this pan as a sort of best buy -- that is, even though they liked the nonstick All-Clad as their best, they liked this T-Fal in the under $50 category. So I didn't expect All-Clad, and I like what I got. Good: Decent heft without a lot of weight - good balance - very flat bottom. Comfortable silicone handle. "Interesting" temperature indicator built in to the bottom of the pan (it's a red circle with a pattern, and when the pattern disappears your pan is hot enough) - said to signal the higher initial heat one wants for more effective browning, etc. Not as good: The non-stick surface is just a little sticky, a little bit hard to wash. My main objection to the pan is that with an All-Clad or Calphalon saute pan, you can easily/handily flip the food with a quick "lift-and-pull" motion -- the T-Fal isn't shaped quite right along its sides to do this, so when you flip/pull, the food doesn't come back toward you as effectively as with the differently shaped pans - you can keep it in the pan with some practice, but it doesn't flip over as much as with the other pans. Bottom line: 1. Worth the money but not as good a tool as the better pans - there's some compromise. 2. It's a pretty new purchase for me, so I can't rate its durability, which is a key question for non-stick pans. T-Fal says you can use metal utensils but then strongly hints that it isn't a good idea. I'm treating it as >not< dishwasher safe, but again: since it's non-stick it's easy to... Read More
