Great value, my new daily driver!

Using this knife in a professional setting daily, has fared well cutting hundreds of onions, fish, potatoes, mushrooms, chicken pieces, etc. Holds a decent edge for a few days under constant use, works well being sharpened by a honer as well as a whetstone. Have not tried to sharpen it in a V sharpener. Well balanced with a light handle. I prefer the fibrox handle to my more expensive smooth ebony-handled knives, as it feels reassuringly snug even when cutting walleye and calamari, which can become quite slippery. Wide face is good for transferring what you've cut to the prep bowl or other container- I have a cutco petite chef knife that is just simply too narrow for effective cutting and transferring. Update, 10-08-18: Still my daily driver knife! I use this knife at least 50 hours a week, every week. I keep it clean and sharp and it's never been through the dishwasher. I stand by my investment proudly. Update, 3-22-21: Yeah what can I say it's still outstanding. The grip is a little smoother because I use it so much, but there's zero pitting on the steel. The blade holds an edge if you use a whetstone every month or however long you personally may need it sharpen it; using a sharpening steel only goes so far to restoring the edge. This knife is also notably lighter than your typical sharpening service blade, so that really helps me keep control and good posture throughout the day. Take it from me, I've used this blade probably 10 times more than the average home cook a... Read More

Can't believe the price

I can't believe how inexpensive this knife is for the amazing quality that you get! I received a victorinox filet knife as a gift over a decade ago. It is still by far the sharpest knife I own. I was researching purchasing a set of cutco knives, but didn't love the HIGH price tag. So thinking of my other victorinox knife, I searched for a chef's knife and came across this one. Decided to give it a try, and if it didn't work great then I'd splurge on the cutco. No need to spend SO much more on a more expensive brand!! This knife is extremely sharp, and I love the material of the handle; it has a wonderful grip and you have no fear of it slipping while you're chopping. BUY THIS KNIFE!!!! Go spend the extra hundreds of dollars on something else.

Can't go wrong with Victorinox

I love this knife. This blade makes short work of tough things to cut like raw yams. It's just an all around great chopping knife. You could spend $150 for a expensive chef's knife and not do any better. At least from the blades perspective. The handle is not anything special, it's just plastic, but it's adequate. Do your self a favor, spend $45 on this knife and $10 on their 4 inch pairing knife. If you've never had really good knives, once you've used these you'll kick yourself for not getting some sooner. I own Cutco knives and would put these far cheaper knives right up with them in performance.

I like it better than my Wusthof and Cutco knives

America's Test Kitchen wasn't lying! I like it better than my Wusthof and Cutco knives. The balance and grip are perfect. The metal is closer to the cheaper Wusthof line ("Gourmet," I think?) and is already starting to get small rust spots from the dishwasher. It's so nice to use that I don't mind having to be vigilant in drying the blade.

No More Tears!

I'm going to add myself to the 3,000 plus positive reviews and say, "It's all true." This knife really is an amazing deal for what you get out of it. I've used a Cutco chef's knife for about 5 years and it has never (EVER) cut anything like my Victorinox has straight out of the box. This knife is a pleasure to use and makes me excited to cook my next meal. I find myself looking for excuses to cut fruits and veggies for fun. The balance and weight of the knife makes it feel light and easy to use. People may think it's "cheap" based on a first look, but anyone that uses a knife everyday would agree this knife is meant to be used every day. I don't know about you, but I would gladly spend $30 on something I use everyday, especially if it's great quality. I use to get tears every single time I cut into an onion. Well, not anymore! This knife slices so fast and clean, the only tears that came out were tears of joy. I plan on getting more of their products.

If you cook a lot, you'll love this better then your Henckels or Cutco!!! (and cheaper)

Love these knives. Bought several for gifts. They came recommended on "Cooks Illustrated" PBS series, so I ordered one, loved it, and proceeded to get more. Very nice weight, balance, feel, knuckle height, etc. Never had such a good time chopping up veggies for cooking for a large group!!!!

I think I found something I like better than my Cutco's

Dear lord, I think I found something I like better than my Cutco's... This knife has been non-stop awesome. I swear cutting average size potatoes with this was easier than a butter knife through cold butter.

For the price this is the chef's knife to get. Cuts beautifully. I wish the handle was more like the Cutco knifes and the weight greater (very personal choices) otherwise I' m ready to get more Victorinox kitchen utensils.
