Happy find- I get single brew happiness and hubby can have his big pot of coffee.

We have been using this daily for two months and I like this- hubby likes to brew a full pot and then store it for drinking over the next two days- I hate the taste of old coffee and thought my only hope was an expensive Keurig and then found this little dream machine that does both. Like that I can use my regular coffee on the single brew side- very intuitive to work- still have not really needed to use the manual but will need to for the cleaning that is due. Can make a single serve big cup (cup not included with mine) or a regular coffee mug size with the metal filter that has suggested amounts in bumps of the side of the filter. Has a nifty series of stacking rings to raise the cup to the correct height- not electronic just stack em and go. Take up about the same room our old coffee maker used to take- important in my small kitchen. All in all please with the purchase and hope it works for a long time.

Better than my Keurig, by far! (updated)

WE LOVE THIS COFFEE MAKER! Here's why... Our Keurig had been on the fritz, and after much troubleshooting, we decided to search for a new coffee maker. I've owned 3 Keurigs, the most recent one being a K425 model with carafe. We really only used the carafe in the morning and that really didn't work all that great for us. We would use or own grounds, but to get 2 cups worth, you'd have to brew it as a 4-5 cup pot and it was still kinda weak, even though we used the large sized reusable filter pod (designed for the carafe) full of grounds. So, many times we'd just brew 2 separate cups, especially since my husband drinks regular coffee while I've been drinking mainly decaf. He wanted to go back to a traditional programmable coffee pot. That was fine by me, so long as it had an auto off. I searched, but I still wanted my single serve machine. So, I saw this one and just kept coming back to it. It really seemed to have all that we were looking for: *Traditional coffee pot *Programmable *Auto off *Single serve. No, it doesn't use K-cups, but that wasn't really a problem for me since we mostly used our own coffee grounds anyway. So I bought it and I am not disappointed. I can tell you this, of the critiques I found in the reviews, there are 2 I'd like to comment on: the bright light and the single serve filter. First, I find the green light on the program button to be very, very bright. I fixed this by coloring over it with a black sharpie. It doesn't block out the light, it just di... Read More

Bought 2 - one as a gift then one for myself! Best in price point.

After reading all the other reviews, I decided that this was the simple coffee maker for my mother! And sure enough, she loved it. The dual options of making a single cup for herself, and then a full pot for when I'm there made this an easy choice. After helping her set it up and using it several times myself, I realized that I couldn't find a better maker when it was time to purchase for myself. Features that made this a good choice for me: (1) The clock and timer are so easy to set up. Very intuitive but also easy to follow instructions in the manual. (2) The single cup brew has its own wire mesh brew basket. Therefore, I can pour my coffee blend directly into the basket without the need of a pod. HOWEVER, if i have flavor pods (not keurig style, but circular flat disks) that I want to use, I CAN use them in the single brew basket with the adapter. Genius. (3) Brew strength feature. My mom likes her coffee weak. I like it at default. We can adjust it on the machine without manually adjusting when we measure out the grounds. (4) Ease of use when switching between a single cup brew vs. a full carafe. Overall, there isn't a better dual brew machine at this price point. The mother has had her maker for 2 years and I've had mine for 7 months. Neither of us have any complaints about the quality and effectiveness of this little Hamilton Beach. Worth its cost, for sure.

Oh My Gosh I Love My Coffee Maker!!!

I'm a fanatic about my Coffee. I like it strong but not as strong as Starbucks. I had a Keurig that made it perfect but it stopped working. I tried to buy a new one of the same model but it's discontinued. I bought two Keurigs and neither one could make good coffee. I also realized that to get the strength of coffee I liked I was limited to an 8 oz. cup because if I went up to a 10 oz or 14 oz. it would weaken the coffee. Every morning I would have to make 2 separate cups of coffee. I sent both of the new Keurigs back and decided to try the Hamilton Beach. That was the best decision I could have made!! Now I can make about a 14 oz cup of coffee all at once and the strength is perfect!! I am thrilled with this Coffee Maker and so is my husband who prefers using the Coffee Pot. We are now Two very HAPPY CAMPERS!!!

Easy to figure out, thermos won't fit under single serve.

It has five total buttons and a switch. Making it super easy. This machine does NOT fit most thermoses as a heads up. You WILL have to make a big pot and just pour it because it literally doesn't fit under. But it's nice for tall or normal mugs. The individual serving took about three minutes maybe four to fill brew a cup of coffee, I didn't much notice the time and it DOES shut off as soon as it is done brewing so you don't need to watch it closely. The machines power button will go from blue to off. There are two separate water reservoirs as well as two separate coffee bean baskets for each of the size options. The single serving option comes with a little pod holder for it's bean basket. This is not like the Keurig pods, these are shaped like Smuckers pb&j premade sammiches. Haven't seen them in the store so far so I don't know where you'd get them. Set up is easy, the only thing I'm not sure about is the power cord. It says you can shove yours in the back a bit so it's clutter free but only about a foot and a half of the cord is available and I tried pulling a bit and it didn't get longer so I'm not sure if the cord is just that short or not. Overall I'm happy with my purchase, I would only take a half star away for the cord length but not a full star away because it is better than a 4 star for sure. Worth the money, don't expect your thermos to fit under the single serve though. The directions are short and worth a read over just incase. (Maybe about 6 pages long).... Read More

I liked the first one so much I got one for my office.

I've had this coffee maker for nearly two years and I love it, it works flawlessly every time. I mostly use the single-serve side and having a metal re-usable filter is the best. I'll use the carafe side probably once a month or so, and it keeps the coffee in the carafe nice and hot. I liked the one at home so much I convinced my boss to buy us one for the office to replace the Keurig. I think it tastes better than a Keurig. We've had the one at the office for about a year, and we haven't had any issues either. They're easy to clean too, I just take out the metal filter, tap it on the side of the garbage bin, and then rinse it out and I'm done. I'll use soap about once a week to get off any residual persistent oils. The carafe side I haven't cleaned yet, since I've only used it a few time. But inside still looked squeaky clean. We have really hard water here and I haven't had any hard water issues with either machine. 10/10 coffee maker. Would totally recommend to everyone.

Absolute love it.

I adore this coffee maker. I have never been interested in a Keurig because I think Kpods are expensive and wasteful with all the plastic. This coffee maker switches back and forth from caraffe to single cup, and I have been able to fit all of my travel mugs underneath the single cup side because the cup holder is adjustable. It is extremely convenient as I am the only daily coffee drinker in my house, the rest are occasional drinkers. I like that it comes with a basket for the single cup side, but there is also a holder so you can use soft/mesh coffee single bags instead. I have not been able to locate any soft coffee pods at stores near me, but I have seem them online. However, I have not felt it necessary to buy them because of how convenient it is to just put a tablespoon of my own coffee in the reusable basket. No need for filters for the caraffe either, any reusable basket should fit in the caraffe. You can program the caraffe or single cup side easily, and have the option to brew regular or bold strength coffee. I actually found that this machine makes the coffee bold enough that I can use less coffee than with other machines and get a great flavor still. My only minor complaint is that is does take a little on the long side to brew, but I think that's why it makes great coffee, because the water runs slowly through it rather than fastly through the coffee grounds, allowing a stronger flavor.

Best coffeemaker I've ever purchased, nice enhancements!

I love that I can make a pot or a single cup with this but there are some other cool things here. The carafe has sideguards at the spout so pouring the coffee from the pot doesn't go wide or dribble. I am the WORST about not being able to pour neatly and I have zero spills with this. Also the single cup side will fit a pod (like a small saucer pod - not a Keurig style) or you can just scoop ground coffee into the filter already provided. You can also flip the bottom under the single cup dispenser to raise it up for a small cup or leave it down for a tall mug. Oh - and there's a BOLD setting for those days when I want my coffee a little stronger. I just wish I could set bold as the default but it goes back to normal after each brew. A lot of thought put into this coffee pot! I'm super happy with it.

Love it!

Bought this after my Keurig stopped working for the third time. I’ve been drinking more than one cup of coffee at a time so wanted to buy a maker that had the carafe as well as a single cup option. Didn’t want to shell out the money for another Keurig model, saw this and couldn’t beat the price. Even better, put it in my cart and let it sit for a few days and when I saw the price dropped $20, I bought it immediately. I use the carafe daily and the coffee is so much warmer than the previous maker produced. I have used the single cup option several times and love that it has a reusable filter and I don’t have to put a cup in to have coffee. And of course, the preset option is always fantastic. It only works with the carafe setting but a single cup brews quickly so don’t think it’s a big deal that it’s unable to preset for single cup. Would definitely buy again. Will be buying my mother one soon!

No more Keurig! Hello 2 way brewer!!!

I have been using Keurig's for years. Have had to replace it at least 3 times. The last one I bought the adaptor you use to brew your own coffee was an AWFUL design!!!!!! If you didn't close it just right, coffee grounds got all over and you had to start over. And they designed it so you couldn't use a universal filter AND every time the filter got clogged, you had to buy the entire adaptor, for $14.99!!!!!!! I am SO ECSTATIC I FOUND THIS 2 WAY BREWER!!!!! Instead of stupid kcup adaptors, the small filter you use for one cup is SO easy to clean and use, slides in an out easily, AND I have the option of making a pot of coffee. And it costs a lot less than a keurig. The maker is nice looking, well made, easy to use displays. I should have made the switch years ago.
