Reviews for Serum Foundation

People say The Ordinary is really similar to Mac.

Natural, light coverage

I don't have much I want to cover on my skin aside from some redness and uneven tone. I prefer something that improves my skin vs naked face but doesn't look like I'm wearing foundation. (I also like Mac water weight) For that application I find this perfect! Yes it doesn't last forever but I feel that even when wearing off it looked natural, not splotchy or weird. If you're looking for full coverage, this may not be for you. And, of course, the price is exceptional. I'm loving adding this to my arsenal!

Great Light to Medium Coverage!

I have a very oddly specific skin shade of a light yellow appearance with a neutral olive undertone so finding the shade for this was an incredible achievement! I got the 1.2N and it blends in like butta! It is light coverage but even if you like full coverage foundation, first give this a try! The lightness helps it blend in like a second skin and if you are looking for a full coverage look without caking, start with this as a base and apply your fuller coverage concealer and contour overtop with a loose powder to prevent creasing! This is perfect for evening the skin tone without caking!!! I have tried all the coverages from full-coverage Mac studio fix foundation all the way to very light coverage Covergirl Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation. For the price this is amazing!

Amazing Alternative

I impulsively bought this product the other day on a whim after contemplating whether I need any makeup products or not. As a person who doesn't wear much makeup anymore, I figured what's the pain in trying this out for such an affordable price. My normal go-to is one of Mac's foundations, but dealing with pandemic and trying to watch my spending, I didn't think it was worth it to spend so much again on some foundation. I have been using The Ordinary's serums for over a year now and my friend recently told me that they had introduced some makeup products. She had already tried their concealer and kept raving to me about how great it is for such a small price, so I checked it out myself only to find out that they have foundations as well. I found my shade from my previous foundation and tried to match it as best as I could to the options here, and luckily I was right on. When the product arrived I was beyond excited to try it out because I was so happy to know that I might have finally found myself a cheaper and just as good alternative for foundation. With just one pump of the foundation, it provided me with great coverage all over my face, hid and reduced any redness that I had from hyperpigmentation and scarring and gave me a more balanced completion. Considering my sensitive skin, I was overjoyed to also find out how delicate it was on the skin. A lot of foundations leave me feeling icky, or wanting to take my makeup off within the first 30 minutes, but not only did th... Read More

Unbeatable finish

This is really comparable to the MAC water weight foundation at 1/4 of the price and it doesn't trigger breakouts on my sensitive skin. I love that this is true medium coverage. No cake, but it cancels out redness and hyper pigmentation. Stays for 4-5 hours, at which point just dab any creases with a moist beauty blender.

Effective product? Yes. Did it match my skin tone? No

I ran across this item and fell in love at first site. I love that you can get a full coverage foundation for less than $7. I normally wear L'Oreal Infallible Matte #107 and it's a great "drugstore" foundation dupe for Urban Decay and Mac products. The reviews are a bit iffy but I thought I'd give it a try. The foundation feels great on the skin and does what it promises. It's definitely something that I wanted as a "hang-around-the-house" or "don't-want-to-get-dolled-up" look. The consistency is liquidy and runny so beware. One pump to two pumps will definitely cover your face. I used a brush but plan to try again with a new shade with a beauty blender. The shade and tone of the color were the issues for me. I was already having serious difficulty trying to figure out my shade since I don't have a local store to go to and this item is only available online. So that's a problem. I watched a considerable amount of YouTube videos and read tons of blogs (I'm very thorough about any purchases or investments I make) and it was hard to settle on one shade but all signs pointed to 2.1Y. I should have remembered that I haven't been outside much due to quarantine since March of this year and apparently I don't have as much yellow undertones as I had always thought. The 2.1Y has a yellow-ish slightly orange-y hue to it that looks passable on my face but terrible on my neck. It's a stark difference. From far away or via webcam (FaceTime and Zoom) you would never know but up close it's ... Read More

The color was perfect

I hate ordering online and not knowing if the color changes once it dries etc. I love this foundation. I have always used MAC full coverage foundation but that's getting kicked out of my makeup station for good. I love this foundation so much!!!

...

I usually use mac studio fix but decided to try this as I've read it has a lighter consistency and I just fancied something new..I love it, I usually find that liquid foundation visibly sits on top of my skin and I can feel it there. This doesn't - it has a very runny consistency but has surprisingly strong coverage. It blended in to my skin really well and I can't feel it on my skin. Colour is great too (I used the colour chart on Instagram for reference)I'd give 10 stars but the bottle isn't that big and it wasn't full. Would buy again though

I love that...

I love that smooth finish you get from wearing foundation but don't like to look like I am wearing makeup. I stopped wearing foundation for a few years now just a tinted finishing powder for the shine just because I got tired of filling my "makeup" drawer with product I use for a few weeks and realize I don't look like me in the mirror. I have been on the hunt again for the perfect foundation and have been researching and watching utube videos for the last few months and that is how I stumbled on "The Ordinary". I wear Mac NC42 and up to NC45 in the summer. I purchsed the 3.0, 3.1Y and 3.2N. The 3.0 is perfect for my "winter" skin tone. I don't look like I have have caked my face and the color matches perfectly. I have tried MAC, Lancome Teint, Makeup Forever and none have matched my skintone so perfectly. I am also an extremely oily person, you know the kind who has to blot ever couple of hours, and this does not sit heavy on my face. This foundation and a concealer, love the look!!! I still have to blot every couple of hours, havent found a solution to that yet... I have also added some of the other Ordinary skincare products to my daily regiment.

the best foundation...

the best foundation ever for me. threw away my old Mac and Guerlain and Armani. my skin has never looked better! so natural, fresh and glowing. and it doesn't block my pores as other foundations. I wear it all day and have no problem with settling into fine lines. but to be honest I have a good skin texture (thanks for Marine Hyaluronics and Niacinamide 10% and vegan diet). and yes, it has lite coverage, so I use concealer for a few dark spots if I need and I also use special concealer for eyes area. thank you a lot for this product

I love this...

I love this stuff. I must have 10 or more foundations, and i mix between them depending on my mood. However since i bought this it seems to be the one 1 reach for the most. I am 47 and have dry combination skin. it can be very dry in winter with some flaking and normal to oily on the t-zone in summer. You have to give this a good shake, and be careful when dispensing as it is liqudy & messy. But it is easy to apply ( i use a big buffing brush) I decided to use some of my others last week, and i used Charlotte Tilbury light wonder and Mac face & body, but neither of them gave me the same glow from within that this does. I can literally throw this on a naked face when in a rush, and its good. Over the natural MF and its great, but throw in the high spreadability fluid primer too and it is simply beautiful. I find it does need setting well or it transfers but thats the only slight negative to it. And its better to build it, if you go too heavy with the amount on application it will settle in lines, but less is more and buff in well and its perfect for older skins. This has become my favourite over CT & Dior and is something i dont think i could live without now. I would go so far as to call it my Holy Grail. Thanks you, this is far from ordinary! xxx

Loooooove this foundation,...

Loooooove this foundation, it is super awesome. It reminds me of the MAC Face and Body but less tacky, more coverage, more hydrating, non sticky, weightless, amazing spreadibility, it takes so little to cover your whole face, The coverage is fuller than I expected (I like super light coverage) but the look of it is so natural that it doesnt bother me. My only comment is the shade range for light medium (i am blonde blue eyed but with a darker skintone without having Yellow or Pink undertones. I bought 2.0N over the summer and the colour was perfect but a bit too light for me when I had a deep summer tan. I wanted to go one shade darker so got 2.1P but that's too pink. We need 3.0N! DECIEM Response: Yay, we're so glad you're loving our Serum Foundation formulation Mina! We will pass your notes about shades onto our production team for review ❤

New go to every day wear

The consistency is almost water but I don't mind personally. I love the coverage, price point, and it matches my skin tone better than my Mac compact although the undertone isn't quite right it still blends with my natural shade quite well. It applies nicely on my normal to dry skin and seems to last 10+ hours as well as my good apple balm.

I bought this foundation on a whim since I wanted to reach a minimum order limit.I googled and took a chance I am Mac NC 40 and I ordered 3.0R. I am yet to try the 3.0Y but U feel the R works well to cover hyperpigmentation.First of all the packaging is so good! In this price they are also giving you a pump which is rare with other foundations of this price and even Mac! So that is a huge plus for me because it adds to the experience of using the product. This foundation is good for people who are looking for light coverage! I have combination skin and really loved it. It is very comparable to a bb or cc cream or even a makeup forever foundation that I presently use! I am definitely also going to recommend it to people who want little makeup but not full coverage and also dont want to invest a lot of money!I think I am gonna repurchase this for sure. barely using makeup due to lockdown and WFH at the moment. I will also get this for my mum! Thanks to this blind purchase I am also going to give the concealer a shot and going to test both R and Y.

I tried ordering 1.2Y, but it must have defaulted to 1.0N when I ordered, so the color is very, very pale. Still, I can see that it is a great lightweight foundation. It does have a thin, silicone feel to it, which doesn't bother me, and the pump gets a little messy due to the thin consistency. It is buildable and easily mixes with lotion or sunscreen. It stays on pretty well, but I have dry skin so those with oily skin might not like it as well.If I had a closer color match, this might be my new foundation. I am usually a Laura Mercier Macademia at my palest, and yellow-based.
