This is a gorgeous notebook that is very aesthetically satisfying. I can't wait for the leather to start getting that broken in look. The leather color is as pictured and it's a nice thick leather that is a pleasure to hold. No chemical smell either. I was worried that the color might bleed but now that it's here I'm less concerned. I'll update if that happens. It comes with high quality paper that is fountain pen friendly--No ghosting at all. I was hoping there'd be a way to remove the metal piece with the phrase on it but I don't see an easy way to do it. That said, it's less intrusive than I expected, especially when it's flipped over. It also comes in very nice packaging that is suitable for gifting as is. I'm delighted by this. Addendum: I've had this for a few months now and I still love it. The color did bleed slightly. For the first week I had it in my pocket with paper on either side to protect my clothes. I ended up taking plain paper and rubbing all the excess pigment off. I've also bought some other notebook refills, including genuine Midori paper. The refills that come with this notebook are superior. My only complaint is that I don't think the elastics are going to last very long but given the design, I think I'll be able to buy craft elastic and use the existing tin nubs to restring it. Still love it and highly recommend.
