Listen here! This new line by Maybelline is called “The Loaded Bolds” for a reason! If you are over a certain age, or like to wear the traditional pretty pinks, corals and pale frosty colors on your lips, keep moving because this lipstick is not going to make you happy. This new line is created for a younger audience who wants a bold, untraditional look. Maybelline has complied with unusual, striking colors (blue, green, grey, purple) in an opaque, extremely pigment-rich base. The look is intentionally bold, striking, odd, un-pretty. The color “Gone Greige” is exactly that…greige. It is a light to medium toned mix of grey and beige. Worn by itself, straight out of the tube, this color is appropriate for young Goth individuals, playing the part of Marat in the staging of Marat/Sade, or attending Zombie Apocalypse conventions. I am only partially joking. Grey lips are on beauty sites all over the internet. Google “Smashbox Punked Lipstick” and see what comes up! It’s a “thing” and it is popular! This shade of lipstick, HOWEVER, is great to apply over a very bright shade to tone it down to something more casual and wearable. Try it over a bright red, orange, or raspberry shade and you will see an immediate, pleasing transformation that is neither Goth nor death warmed over.
